A Primary Bedroom Wrapped in Pattern
We first discovered the work of Laura Healey and the team at Main Street Home through their use of Cailíní Coastal wallpaper in client projects. So when Laura, Partner Designer, set out to refresh her own primary bedroom, we were excited to see her turn to pattern once again. Using our Kenilworth Chintz Dawn Wallpaper throughout the room, Laura layered shades of blue with warmer tones to create a space that feels collected, inviting, and full of personality.
We sat down with Laura to talk about what drew her to the wallpaper, how the pattern shaped the palette for the rest of the room, and why she believes committing to wallpaper throughout a space can create an even more cohesive result.

CC: Tell us a little about your vision for your primary bedroom. What did you want the space to feel like when you started the transformation?
LH: I wanted the room to feel warm, layered, and inviting while still having that fresh coastal feel I love. It had been very white and neutral before, so I was ready to bring in more color, pattern, and personality.
CC: What drew you to the Kenilworth Chintz Dawn Wallpaper, and what made you feel like it was the right pattern for this room?
LH: I immediately loved the mix of blues and warmer tones in the Kenilworth Chintz Dawn. It felt coastal without being overly coastal, and traditional in a way that still felt fresh and current.

CC: Were you always planning to wallpaper the entire room, or did the idea of going all-in on pattern evolve as the design came together?
LH: I knew pretty early on that I wanted to use wallpaper throughout the room. With the white ceiling tongue and groove paneling (at varying elevation points) breaking up the pattern, I felt like I could really go for it without it becoming overwhelming.
CC: The architecture of the room is so beautiful, from the pitched ceilings to the white paneling. How did those details influence the way you approached the wallpaper and the overall design?
LH: The architecture gave me the perfect framework for adding pattern. The crisp white tongue and groove balances the wallpaper and lets the pitched ceilings and character of the room still stand out.

CC: How did the wallpaper help establish the color palette for the rest of the room? Were there certain colors or details within the pattern that you specifically wanted to pull out elsewhere?
LH: The wallpaper really became the jumping-off point for the entire palette. I pulled out the different shades of blue, but also leaned into its warmer tones so the room would feel cozy and layered rather than just blue and white.
CC: What was the biggest transformation you noticed once the wallpaper went up? Did it change the way the room felt in a way you weren't expecting?
LH: It instantly made the room feel more finished and intimate. I expected the pattern to make a statement, but I was surprised by how much warmth and coziness it added.
CC: For someone who loves patterned wallpaper but may be hesitant to use it throughout an entire room, what advice would you give them?
LH: Don’t be afraid to commit to it. If you truly love the pattern and balance it with quieter elements throughout the room, using it on every wall can actually feel more cohesive than using it in just one spot.
CC: Now that the room is complete, how would you describe the finished space in three words?
LH: Layered, coastal, inviting.
