CC ACK Beach House: Bunk Room Reveal
Every great beach house needs a bunk room and we were thrilled that our house came with one! Like much of the house, the bunk room was a true blank canvas when we bought it - white walls, basic lighting, minimal or no window treatments. I saw it as an incredible opportunity to make the space our own!
Here is the before photo:
I partnered with my dear friend and talented designer, Lynn Morgan, to bring the entire home to life, and this room was one of the most fun to design. For the bunk room, we wanted a space that felt playful and nautical, as bunk rooms so often are, but without feeling too kitschy. We aimed to find the balance between that as feel sophisticated and timeless.
We decided to paint all of the shiplap, built-ins and trim in a rich navy blue - Benjamin Moore Downpour Blue. That single decision gave the room such richness and depth, instantly elevating the entire space.
One of the most exciting parts of this room was designing a custom wallpaper just for this space. I knew I wanted a stripe - something coastal and timeless - but with a more playful twist. Inspired by a vintage ticking stripe fabric I found in Paris, we created our very own Bristol Stripe Wallpaper, tweaking the scale and tones to make it feel preppy, fresh, and not too serious. It’s since become a favorite!
To bring in more nautical elements, we added our Modern Sailboat Art - a series of crisp white-framed vintage reproduction prints of sailboats and ships. They're clean, classic, and tie in beautifully with the coastal theme.
For the beds, we chose simple white stitched quilts with subtle pops of blue, layered over navy and white patterned sheets for a fun contrast.
Pillows were where we played and got a little literal! Our now best-selling Swell Pillow, paired with Crab and Lobster Hook Pillows, one for each bed. I especially love the little pop of red these pillows brought into the space.
The final detail recently arrived, our custom window treatments. These are always an investment, but they truly finish a room. We chose a solid blue fabric with a playful trim for a tailored, but fun look.
