Designer Spotlight: Barbara Brosnan Interiors

One of my favorite things about social media is its ability to connect you with people you otherwise would likely never meet.  A perfect example of that is today's featured designer, Barbara Brosnan of Barbara Brosnan Interiors.  I found a photo on Instagram of the most gorgeous blue bathroom I'd ever seen (photo below!) .... designed by Barbara.  I immediately went down the Instagram rabbit hole of Barbara's gorgeous designs and knew I needed to connect. Barbara is as lovely as her designs are beautiful.  I am excited to introduce you to her and share her incredibly unique, classic and beautiful designs with you.

CC: How did you get your start as a designer?

BB: I studied Art History and (shockingly) there weren't very many job opportunities after college. I started working for an interior designer and liked it so much I went back to design school. The designer that I worked for encouraged me to take on clients of my own and eventually I opened my own business.

CC: What is your signature design style?

BB: A contemporary approach to classic design.

CC: What are your favorite types of design projects?

BB: I love projects with clients who are willing to take risks! I also love renovations because the before/afters are so satisfying.

CC: How can our readers achieve the designer look at home themselves?

BB: Shop around, don't go directly to the typical "chain" home decor stores. There are lots of amazing smaller boutique shops that can offer you a more unique style.

CC: What are some of the most consistent design mistakes you see your clients making?

BB: I see a lot of my clients selecting neutrals because they are afraid to commit to a strong color. Then they are unhappy when their room looks blah... Its ok to take a risk!

CC: How do you like to incorporate home accents in your design projects?

BB: I am a big coffee table book girl. I am constantly re-reading and rotating my favorite books on my coffee table.

CC: What types of home accents do you find to be most transformational to a room?

BB: Fresh or dried flowers and palm leaves can really brighten and refresh a room.

CC: What are your favorite Cailíní Coastal finds and how would you style them?

I love the Nantucket Chandelier. I can see this piece looking great over a cozy breakfast nook with lots of patterned pillows.

The Lavallette Tray is a super versatile piece. Trays are a great way to style several pieces and present them in a cohesive way. Using a tray on a coffee table with candles and some florals can give a space a nicely decorated touch.

The Remedium Jasmine and Lily Candle is a great way to make any space feel warm & welcoming. I would use this candle in my entry way to make guests feel right at home as soon as they walk in. When I find a candle I like I stock up on them to bring as hostess gifts.
