CC ACK Beach House: What We're Updating

Wow!  We were blown away by the response when we announced our new series last week: The Making of the CC Nantucket Beach House!  We're thrilled that you're as excited to watch the transformation of this home as we are to design it.  Now that we know the interest is so great, we promise lots of updates and content shared taking you along on this journey.  Be sure to follow us on Instagram if you're not already for more behind-the-scenes!

In addition to collaborating with our amazing design team, Lynn Morgan Design, we are working with an incredible partner on island - Main Street Construction - to help bring this redesign to life and oversee everything in our absence.  They've been wonderful and shared many of the progress photos you're about to see!

Today, I'm sharing the biggest changes we're making to the home.

As mentioned in our last post, the home was already beautiful and in excellent condition when we purchased it.  While none of these changes are necessary, we're making them to give the home more personality and reflect our family's unique style.

One of the biggest changes we're making is adding color.  I love a house that feels happy and inviting and this home was a little too monochromatic for our taste.  We'll be adding color through paint and wallpaper in many of the spaces.  We'll be wallpapering just about every bathroom, painting the laundry room cabinets, painted ceilings, built-ins in the office and more!  We're sticking to our favorite coastal blues and greens palette - with a sprinkle of some new colors we'll share soon!

Lynn loves a painted floor!  She convinced us to paint the floors of our home in CT and it added such a fun touch.  We'll be doing a similar "runner style" painting in the laundry room.  Below is a photo of our CT home painted floor and a progress shot of our Nantucket laundry room.

The entryway is beautiful in it's simplicity with white floor to ceiling shiplap walls. We designed a really fun geometric pattern for the floors that will add lots of interest and color to the space.  I have yet to see any of this in person, so it's exciting to see these photo sneak peeks myself!

We're also adding some fun painted stripes to the walls in a few spaces.  I love a stripe (so does Lynn!) and if there is anywhere you can go wild with stripes it's on Nantucket!  Here is a rendering of a stripe we're doing in one of my daughters' rooms.  Fun, right?!

One of the things that was missing was a place to easily sit to put on shoes and to hide sandy shoes by the entry doors.  We are obsessed with the mudroom in our CT home. It has a big wall of built in cubbies and a bench.  It's functional and helps me keep the space tidy.  We decided to transform the entryway coat closet into a built-in seating area with cubby drawers underneath to store shoes.

Below is an inspiration photo and a progress shot of the construction.

Given the nature of my business, I need fresh spaces for content and one of the things I wanted to change was the cookie cutter bathrooms.  Every bathroom had the same vanity, mirror and light combo.  They were all identical...and all with bare white walls.  We didn't want to invest the time or budget into fully custom vanities, so we selected some of the vanities that we sell at Caiíiní Coastal.  These achieve the custom look without the custom lead times and prices.   Sharing some before and afters below...we're still waiting on the new mirrors, lights and wallpaper to really differentiate and transform these spaces.

Before - beautiful, but every bathroom was identical.

We're still waiting on two more vanities and then we'll be painting some of the remaining ones to make them feel differentiated.  Paint and new hardware is a really easy way to refresh a vanity and give it a more custom look.

I am headed back to the island next week.  It will be my first trip back since the design process began and I can't wait to see and share the progress with you!  Stay tuned for loads more updates on the making of the CC Nantucket Beach House.

xx Meg
