Behind the Brand: Weston Farms

I’m thrilled to share an exciting collaboration that began with a simple scroll through Instagram. It was there that we first discovered the breathtaking holiday installations by Weston Farms, a moment that ignited our imagination. Their artistry and creativity struck a chord with us, leaving us inspired.

At Cailini Coastal, we had never ventured into the world of live greenery before, so the thought of merging Weston Farms' expertise with our coastal aesthetic was exciting! After connecting with Erin, the passionate visionary behind Weston Farms, it became evident that our brands shared a profound commitment to beauty and quality. Our conversations blossomed into a wealth of ideas, leading us to create a unique collection that infuses fresh, natural elegance into your fall decor.

I can't wait for you to explore these pieces as much as we enjoyed crafting them. Join me in discovering the passion and meticulous care that Erin and her team bring to Weston Farms. Your fall decor is about to get a stunning makeover!

CC: What inspired you to leave your career in New York and start a farm in North Carolina?
WF: In 2002, I relocated from NYC to my home state of North Carolina with a vision to grow a unique, enduring luxury product. I wasn't sure what that product would be, but I was open to every opportunity. The magnolia chose me, and I started selling my first creations at a local farmer's market. Magnolia wasn't my first choice, but I kept coming back to it every year. After 4 years of being a farmer, I realized my greatest passion was creating designs from magnolia that utilized my background in Art History to create natural accessories for homes and businesses.

CC: Weston Farms is based in North Carolina. How has the location influenced the way you grow and create your products?
WF: Magnolia trees are native to the Southeast, and most everyone who grew up in NC has a story about a tree that was part of their life - from climbing the massive limbs to enjoying a shaded spot. These ancient trees have a rich history, and their leaves and flowers were always used by my grandmother to decorate.

CC: Magnolias play a central role in Weston Farms. What drew you to focus on magnolia trees and their leaves for your products?
WF: The magnolia chose me, and I started selling my first creations at a local farmer's market. We've grown from there into a national mail order company, but attending our local farmers market in the fall remains one of our favorite inspirations. We can try new things and see the wonderful community that built our business.

CC: Weston Farms is known for its beautiful wreaths and garlands. What makes your products stand out compared to others in the market?
WF: First and foremost, it's the abundance of materials. For instance, our 28" wreath has over 1000 leaves. Our brand is unique because we cultivate our own proprietary variety of Magnolia, which features distinctive leaves with a glossy green side and a velvety brown side. We control every aspect of production, from sapling to finished product, ensuring the highest quality and most unusual specimens for color and texture. Our commitment to natural materials and hand-crafted designs sets us apart in the luxury home décor market.

CC: Growing a business from a single tree to a large-scale farm is an impressive journey. What were some of the biggest challenges you faced along the way? Mother Nature
WF: The biggest challenge is Mother Nature - bugs, drought, and self-doubt. I've learned on this journey that sometimes if something is too hard for too long, it's important to pivot and be open to new products and concepts and redirect the course.

CC: Your father played a key role in the early days of the farm. How has his influence shaped the way Weston Farms operates today?
WF: My father was the first horticulturist for the city of Raleigh, and his stewardship of the earth and choice of plant materials left the greatest influence on the farm. He was more prone to act than speak, and his actions were inspiring. Although he passed in 2017, the trees he helped me choose and plant remain the basis of the farm. He also encouraged me to make wreaths. I was reluctant because when I grew up in the 80's, a wreath was something with big synthetic bows, so I had to rethink what a wreath would look like and let the natural ingredients be bold and beautiful.

CC: Can you share more about the pieces from the Cailini Coastal x Weston Farms collaboration? What makes them special?
WF: As the founder of Weston Farms, I've been dreaming about coastal fall for quite some time now. You know, I've always felt that no one has really created a sophisticated interpretation of fall in coastal areas - there's this incredible opportunity to create something truly sophisticated and unique.

When I think of coastal fall, I'm immediately drawn to those beautiful sage tones and the quiet, understated beauty of autumn. Most people associate coastal decor with summer, but fall by the coast has this completely overlooked magic that I'm absolutely in love with.

So when Cailíní Coastal reached out about a collaboration, I was over the moon! It was the perfect chance to bring a coastal fall vision to life. We've been playing with these ideas at the farm for a few years, and this partnership gave us the perfect excuse to really dive in and see what we could create.

We took a good look around the farm to see what we were growing that could capture those coastal fall vibes. The star of the show ended up being our Arizona Cypress - it has this incredible blue, coral-like quality. We paired it with our signature Magnolia, of course, and added some Nandina for a touch of lightness. The result is this wonderfully balanced palette that feels both cozy and breezy at the same time.

What I love about this collection is how it pushes the boundaries of traditional fall decor. We're moving away from the typical oranges and reds, and instead embracing a more sophisticated, coastal-inspired color scheme. It's all about capturing the essence of autumn in a fresh, innovative way that feels right at home in a coastal setting.

I'm just thrilled with how everything has come together. It's been such a joy to work on this coastal fall concept and see it come to life in such a beautiful way. I truly believe we've created something special here - a fresh take on fall that's elegant, inviting, and perfectly suited to coastal living. I can't wait for everyone to see it and hopefully fall in love with coastal fall just like I have!
