CC: Where are you based?
MS: Northern Virginia just outside DC
CC: How did you get your start as a designer?
MS: I’ve always had a passion for interiors, in fact my very first job in high school was working at a fabric shop and I’ll never forget how much I loved being surrounded by bolts of fabric in every color and pattern! While I initially began my career after college in elementary education, once I had my first daughter I wanted to have the ability to establish my own schedule and obtain creative freedom in my work. I decided to engage my passion for design and wanted to help others transform their homes into spaces that fulfill them, so I created STAGE+STYLE+STRAS in 2017.

CC: In one line, what is your signature design style?
MS: I love to blend bright, clean and curated elements to achieve a fresh yet timeless look.
CC: What are your favorite types of design projects?
MS: Projects that begin with a blank canvas and allow me to design everything from selecting paint and finishes to sourcing furniture and styling accessories.

CC: How can our readers achieve the designer look at home themselves?
MS: Take the time to do your research and make a plan. Utilize tools like Pinterest to help you define your design style and notice patterns in what you like and don’t like. This will help you make better informed decisions with your furniture or accessory selections.

CC: What are some of the most consistent design mistakes you see your clients making?
MS: Going with trends instead of taking the time to discover what would make them happy in their home in the long run.
CC: How do you like to incorporate home accents in your design projects?
MS: It’s all about the details! Even though I like to keep my designs clean and not overly cluttered, you will always find me suggesting to the client that we layer throw pillows on a sofa, stack favorite books on tables and fill shelves with different objects both old and new to create visual interest.

CC: What types of home accents do you find to be most transformational to a room?
MS: Investing in quality art, textiles and pottery can really make a room shine; they are the finishing touches that pull out the personality of the home and the client and add layers of depth and character to a space. I personally cannot stop collecting pots, vases and jars because they work as both sculptural objects by themselves or great vessels for greenery.
CC: What are your favorite Cailíní Coastal finds and how would you style them?
EAST HAMPTON ORCHID PLANTER
This planter is beautiful by itself styled on a shelf or could be filled with white hydrangea and arranged on your coffee table.

RECTANGULAR CHARCUTERIE BOARD - WHITE
Who doesn’t love a good cheese board! When you’re spending lots of time at home it feels like a fun way to liven up that late afternoon stretch until dinner time by serving up your favorite snacks on this gorgeous board. Plus, when it’s not in use I love to stack it with my other collected bread boards propped up in my kitchen.

RAINBOW ROW WATERCOLOR PRINT
Art can make a space and I love how this print would look gorgeous hanging on a wall, or casually layered on a chest with a larger piece or mirror behind. This would also make such an impactful grouping with another watercolor print or two!
