Meet the Artist: Mollygrams

I’m thrilled to introduce Molly Pascal, the talented founder of Mollygrams and a Boston-based artist whose watercolor work brings a touch of timeless beauty to any space. Molly's journey as both an artist and art educator has shaped her unique approach, blending realism with a touch of whimsy and coastal inspiration. Her alphabet-themed collection, inspired by her own children, began as a personal project and has evolved into pieces designed to grow with families, capturing memories that last. Our exclusive Cailíní Coastal x Mollygrams collaboration reflects her dedication to quality, from the meticulously crafted watercolor letters to the hand-built frames sourced from local artisans. Each piece is made to be cherished, creating a lasting legacy for any room. Join us as we dive into Molly's story, her inspirations, and the journey behind Mollygrams.

CC: We're so thrilled to have you on the blog! Can you tell our readers a bit about where you're based?
MP: I'm a Boston-based artist and educator—go Sox! Like many, I actually live in a suburb just outside of Boston and work out of my home studio.
CC: Tell us about your background and how you got your start as an artist.
MP: I received my BA in Studio Art and Art History from Connecticut College and my M.Ed. in Art Education (5-12) from Lesley University in Cambridge, Ma. Art has always been an intrinsic part of who I am. From a young age, I was fortunate to have enriching artistic experiences and inspiring teachers who nurtured my creativity both in school and beyond. My parents played a pivotal role, encouraging my artistic pursuits and giving me countless opportunities to explore this side of myself. Becoming an artist never felt like a conscious decision—it was simply what I loved doing. Over time, that love grew into a dedicated passion, defining both my identity and my path.
As both an artist and a teacher, I’ve been proud to serve as a middle school art educator since 2011, specializing in watercolor since 2013. Over the years, I’ve gathered an extensive collection of visual references that deeply inform my work.

CC: In what style do you paint or how would you describe your style?
MP: Watercolor has captivated me for over a decade, starting from a transformative two-week artist residency at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Maine. My style is rooted in realism, though I often exercise artistic license to alter colors and shapes, especially when working with letters. While I’m drawn to abstract art and enjoy working with abstraction, I find both joy and challenge in the precision and discipline of realism.

CC: What inspires your work?

MP: My experiences on the East Coast, combined with life alongside my young children, inspire me profoundly. I draw particular inspiration from the seaside, coastal flora, shoreline treasures, and the natural world. My kids’ curiosity about the outdoors—especially their love of sea and forest creatures (they’re huge fans of WildKratts)—fuels my creative direction.

CC: Tell us about this collection with Cailíní Coastal and what inspired it?

MP: The inspiration behind my alphabet painting journey was a simple yet meaningful desire to create lasting, high-quality artwork for my son’s toddler room and baby’s nursery. I needed to fashion letters corresponding to each of my son's names. My goal was twofold: to craft pieces that could grow with my children and to create artwork that fulfilled me personally. This led me to create an alphabet-themed collection that began as a practical solution but soon blossomed into a broader artistic pursuit, laying the foundation for Mollygrams.

I had the pleasure of working with Meg and her team at Cailini Coastal to create the Cailini Coastal x Mollygrams Alphabet. Every element was carefully curated, from the watercolor artwork to the fine prints on 100% cotton rag paper from PitchBlack Editions, a local print shop in Concord, MA, to the hand-built frames crafted by artisans. Mollygrams sources all materials domestically, even down to the frame hardware, enhancing our commitment to environmental responsibility.

CC: What do you enjoy painting most?

MP: Coastal landscapes are my favorite, especially those that feature muted colors. I also love experimenting with abstract brushstrokes and techniques.

CC: When you’re not painting, what will we find you doing?

MP: When I’m not painting or teaching, I’m usually trying to keep up with my two boys. We’re always on the go—whether it’s fishing, crabbing, biking, scootering, skiing, digging holes, doing puzzles, crafting, drawing, or making forts! Between friends, family, two energetic golden retrievers, and the kids, my husband and I have our hands full—survival mode at its finest!
