Meet the Artist: Tricia Lowenfield

I’m thrilled to introduce Tricia Lowenfield, a Texas-based artist whose work has quickly become a beloved part of so many homes. Tricia’s pieces capture a warmth and nostalgia that families treasure, often passed down as heirlooms. Her “whimsical European folk art” style, with its bold colors and timeless charm, brings beauty and meaning to everyday items, creating art that’s deeply personal. From family portrait platters to our exclusive cookie plate, Tricia’s creations are crafted to hold memories and inspire connection—perfect for family traditions.

CC: We’re so thrilled to feature you in our 'Meet the Artist' series! Can you share with our reader where are you based?
TL: I am based in Texas, north of Houston. I have a studio about 5 minutes from my house, which is great because when I stay too late painting my husband can just quickly pop over and drag me home. :)
CC: Tell us about your background and how you got your start as an artist.
TL: I am a self-taught artist. My mother noticed my artistic style when I was about 5 years old, and so she made sure that I didn’t take any art classes or have any instruction that might dampen my own style. It wasn’t until 1989, however, that I started painting ceramics, when I was looking to create my own ceramic button covers (a very 80s thing!), and then got into tiles and dishes. Etc.

CC: In what style do you paint/how would you describe your style?
TL: I like to call it ‘whimsical European folk art’. I love bold, bright colors and styles that are classic and timeless.
CC: What inspires your work?
TL:  I’m inspired by everything! I love to travel and visit my girls, and often get inspiration on those trips, and I love to brainstorm and dream up new products with them. I love making functional art and heirloom pieces that are meaningful and practical for people.

CC: Can you tell us a bit about our exclusive cookie plate and why you love it!
TL: This was a really fun project to work on because it combined my artistic style with the Cailini Coastal aesthetic. I love reds and greens so that’s what I naturally gravitate towards at all times of year (and especially Christmas!), but I have a daughter who loves blue and white and so when the idea was pitched to me I knew immediately it would work because I knew she’d love it.
CC: You have such an extensive collection of pieces that you offer. What is your favorite piece to create?

TL: The latest thing I’m working on is usually my most favorite piece! I really enjoy doing family portrait platters because I know that I’m creating something really special that will be a cherished gift for many years, and they’re all so unique because every family is unique. I also love when customers come to me with ideas they think might not work and I say “we can do it!”I am very inspired by creating new pieces.

CC: When you’re not working, what will we find you doing?
TL: I’m really grateful that I absolutely love what I do and I wake up excited to go into the studio each day. But if I’m not in the studio, you’ll usually find me on the way to visit one of my three daughters and 7 grandchildren in Washington, Missouri or Oxford, UK (or at least FaceTiming with them!). Family time is my favorite time, and so I’m always looking for when I can next see them.
